If you have been following the messages shared by this ministry then you would already know that numbers in the Scripture have deep significant spiritual meanings. In this message, I am sharing what I believe to be one of the deep spiritual meanings and significance of the number “4” in the Bible. There exists more than one meaning to the number 4 in Scripture but I believe this meaning to be the weightiest of them all. The Bible prophesied that the promised Messiah would come out of the tribe of Judah and would become the King of kings. He would be of the line of King David who was of the tribe of Judah. Why is it important to understand that Yeshua (Jesus) would come from the line of the tribe of Judah? One of the reasons that aligns with this message is that Judah was the “4th” born son of Jacob. (Genesis 29:31-35)

 

Yeshua’s death, burial and resurrection happened during the “4th” millennia and by His sacrifice (offering of Himself) and shed blood we have “entered” into the New Covenant and are washed clean of all our sins and made white as snow! (Luke 22:20, 1 John 1:6-9 & Revelation 7:14)

 

We are given “4” Gospel accounts of the life, death, burial and resurrection of Yeshua (Jesus) found in the Books of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.

 

Unlike English and many other languages, each letter of the Hebrew alphabet has their own individual meanings. The “4th” letter of the Hebrew alphabet is the letter “dalet“, the meaning of the letter dalet is “door” or “doorway“. The Hebrew letter dalet also represents the numerical value of 4 in Hebrew.

 

We read in Acts 15:19-21, “19 “Therefore it is my judgment that we do not trouble those who are turning to God from among the Gentiles, 20 but that we write to them that they abstain from things contaminated by idols and from fornication and from what is strangled and from blood. 21 “For Moses from ancient generations has in every city those who preach him, since he is read in the synagogues every Sabbath.”

Here we read about the ruling made by the Council of Jerusalem to determine what was to be required of all the new believers in order for them to come in and remain in fellowship/worship with the assemblies (churches) that were in every city. The Apostle James (Yaqob/Jacob) gives the final ruling that the new believers had to agree to abstain from “4” specific things in order to be able to “enter” into the assemblies which James refers to as synagogues in verse 21. These 4 requirements are abstaining from:

1. things contaminated by idols
2. fornication/sexual immorality
3. what is strangled
4. from blood

One of the reasons for these 4 requirements is to make sure that new believers are not taking part in pagan worship practices as one cannot worship the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob while still participating in idolatry. The “door” is not open to those who are not willing to forsake these 4 things in their lives to begin their walk. These 4 requirements are just a starting point for the walk of faith of a new believer based on verse 21, as they will hear Moses (law of God) being preached in the synagogues every Sabbath day. They will learn how a believer should live as they learn more of the law of God every Sabbath and the Holy Spirit will write God’s laws on their hearts as they increase in relationship with God and in their understanding of His truth, so that they may walk it out in faith.

 

We can see in Numbers chapters 1 and 2 that God instructed the 12 tribes of Israel to encamp on each of the 4 sides of the tabernacle in the wilderness. There were to be 3 tribes setup on each of the 4 sides and the 4 directions (north, south, east & west) of the tabernacle. There is also a count of the men of battle according to each tribe so that we have an idea of the size of each encampment on each side of the tabernacle. When we put all this info together it paints a picture for us. I believe the prophet Balaam saw this prophetic picture as he stood on Mount Peor with Balak when he lifted up his eyes and saw Israel encamped according to their tribes around the tabernacle in the wilderness. We find this account in Numbers 23:27-24:2 as we read about the attempts of Balak to get Balaam to curse Israel but God would not allow Balaam to curse Israel but instead caused him to bless Israel. Balaam shares a prophetic revelation of a coming “Star” & “Sceptre” and “One” that would rule and destroy the enemies of Israel later in chapter 24. Who is this prophesied One? I believe Balaam saw a prophetic picture of the coming “One” that was to be the ruler of Israel as his eyes looked upon the encampment of Israel from Mount Peor. What do I believe he saw that was prophetic of this coming One? See the image below!

We read in Exodus 26:31-36, “31 “And you shall make a veil of blue and purple and scarlet yarns and fine twined linen. It shall be made with cherubim skillfully worked into it. 32 And you shall hang it on four pillars of acacia overlaid with gold, with hooks of gold, on four bases of silver. 33 And you shall hang the veil from the clasps, and bring the ark of the testimony in there within the veil. And the veil shall separate for you the Holy Place from the Most Holy. 34 You shall put the mercy seat on the ark of the testimony in the Most Holy Place. 35 And you shall set the table outside the veil, and the lampstand on the south side of the tabernacle opposite the table, and you shall put the table on the north side. 36 “You shall make a screen for the entrance of the tent, of blue and purple and scarlet (crimson) yarns and fine twined linen, embroidered with needlework.”

 

We see in verses 33 & 36 that the Lord instructs that the 2 veils of the tabernacle (aka tent of meeting) were to be made with the 4 colors of blue, purple, crimson/scarlet and white. If you were paying close attention to verses 33 & 36 you should be disagreeing with me on these 4 colors and say that there are only 3 colors listed in these verses. You would be correct to say that only 3 colors are specifically mentioned in the English translation of these 2 verses but the word “linen” in the Hebrew (shaysh) literally means “bleached white” or the whitest of white linen or linen that is as white as snow (Isaiah 1:18). To bleach a cloth material is to remove any and all stains and any other color contamination. God’s instruction is to make the veils using the colors blue, purple, crimson/scarlet and bleached white, these veils were made of 4 colors and every time the colors of the tabernacle veils are mentioned in the Bible the order of the colors are always the same.

1. blue
2. purple
3. crimson/scarlet
4. bleached white

The veils of the tabernacle functioned as the entry points or the “doorways” of the tabernacle itself as well as the the holy of holies or sometimes referred to as the most holy place. Before anyone could enter the tabernacle they would have to go through the first veil made up of these 4 colors and before the High Priest could enter the holy of holies (most holy place) once a year he would have to go through the second veil also made up of these 4 colors which separated the holy place from the most holy place (holy of holies).

Why did God specify the use of these 4 colors in the making of the veils (entry points) for the tabernacle and always in the same specific order of colors?

I believe these 4 colors reveal a deeper spiritual meaning which requires a specific order in which they must be given. I will list what I believe each of these 4 colors represent.

1. blue = heaven (waters above/living water)
2. purple = king/royalty
3. crimson/scarlet = blood
4. bleached white = cleansing

These 4 colors of the tabernacle veils proclaimed what was to come and reveal a deeper meaning of what it meant to enter the tabernacle of the Lord where His Spirit and glory dwelt. I believe that a deeper spiritual revelation of these 4 colors is the following:

From heaven comes a King whose blood will cleanse all those that enter in!

Of course, there can be other ways to understand the deeper spiritual meaning of these 4 colors that will still reveal the King who is the door into salvation (Yeshua), into the New Covenant and His Kingdom. (Luke 22:20, 1 John 1:6-9, Revelation 7:14 & John 6:47-51)

 

Let’s read the words of Yeshua in John 10:1-9, “1 “Truly, truly, I say to you, he who does not enter the sheepfold by the door but climbs in by another way, that man is a thief and a robber. 2 But he who enters by the door is the shepherd of the sheep. 3 To him the gatekeeper opens. The sheep hear his voice, and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. 4 When he has brought out all his own, he goes before them, and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice. 5 A stranger they will not follow, but they will flee from him, for they do not know the voice of strangers.” 6 This figure of speech Jesus used with them, but they did not understand what he was saying to them. 7 So Jesus again said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep. 8 All who came before me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not listen to them. 9 I am the door. If anyone enters by me, he will be saved and will go in and out and find pasture. 10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly. 11 I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. 12 He who is a hired hand and not a shepherd, who does not own the sheep, sees the wolf coming and leaves the sheep and flees, and the wolf snatches them and scatters them. 13 He flees because he is a hired hand and cares nothing for the sheep. 14 I am the good shepherd. I know my own and my own know me, 15 just as the Father knows me and I know the Father; and I lay down my life for the sheep. 16 And I have other sheep that are not of this fold. I must bring them also, and they will listen to my voice. So there will be one flock, one shepherd. 17 For this reason the Father loves me, because I lay down my life that I may take it up again. 18 No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down, and I have authority to take it up again. This charge I have received from my Father.”’

The number 4 points to Yeshua (Jesus) as the Messiah, His first coming and that He is clearly the door of our salvation. There is also another door that belongs to each one of us that must be opened to Him first. Let’s go through the following verses of Scripture and see what they reveal about this other door.

 

We read in Psalm 141:3, “Set a guard, O LORD, over my mouth; keep watch over the door of my lips!”

 

We read in Matthew 15:10-18, “10 And he called the people to him and said to them, “Hear and understand: 11 it is not what goes into the mouth that defiles a person, but what comes out of the mouth; this defiles a person.” 12 Then the disciples came and said to him, “Do you know that the Pharisees were offended when they heard this saying?” 13 He answered, “Every plant that my heavenly Father has not planted will be rooted up. 14 Let them alone; they are blind guides. And if the blind lead the blind, both will fall into a pit.” 15 But Peter said to him, “Explain the parable to us.” 16 And he said, “Are you also still without understanding? 17 Do you not see that whatever goes into the mouth passes into the stomach and is expelled? 18 But what comes out of the mouth proceeds from the heart, and this defiles a person”

Just as that which comes out of an evil heart defiles a man, that which comes out of a heart of one who receives Yeshua as Lord and Savior makes a man clean!

 

We read in Romans 10:8-13, “8 But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart” (that is, the word of faith that we proclaim); 9 because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe (have faith) in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved. 11 For the Scripture says, “Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame.” 12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, bestowing his riches on all who call on him. 13 For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

True belief (faith) according to our Heavenly Father’s Word ALWAYS leads to action (obedience) but it must first begin in our hearts! (James 2:14-20)

 

We read the words of Yeshua in Revelation 3:20, “Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with Me.”

If we will allow Him in He desires relationship with us, to share a meal in Hebraic or Jewish thought is to desire fellowship or in other words to build a personal relationship!

 

Before we are able to enter the “Door” of our salvation we must first open our door to Him! The door that must be opened for Yeshua (Jesus) to enter in is our heart and out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks (Luke 6:45) and will proclaim life which is only found in Him! May we all have such faith and a heart for our Lord and Savior that we proclaim the Gospel by our words and our deeds of loving obedience so that all those whose doors are still closed to Him in darkness may see His light through us and their doors also be opened!

“I said to him, “Sir, you know.” And he said to me, “These are the ones coming out of the great tribulation. They have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.” (Revelation 7:14)

 

“47 Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes has eternal life. 48 I am the bread of life. 49 Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and they died. 50 This is the bread that comes down from heaven, so that one may eat of it and not die. 51 I (Yeshua) am the living bread that came down from heaven. ‘“Come now, let us reason together, says the LORD: though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall become like wool.” (Isaiah 1:18)

 

“14 What does it profit, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but does not have works?
